Your Google account

Opinion-Talk does not accept email and password sign-in. Your Google account is the only way to access it, so use a strong, unique Google password and protect that account.

Two-step verification switched on at Google protects this site too. You can also set up an authenticator app for Opinion-Talk in Settings.

If you lose access

Recover your Google account through Google. Opinion-Talk cannot reset a password because it does not store one.

Staying signed in, and signing out

Log out in the account menu deletes local session data immediately; Settings can also end sessions on all devices. On a computer that is not yours, log out rather than just closing the tab.

What this site will never ask you for

Nobody here will ever ask for your Google password, not by email, not in a reply and not from the support address. Opinion-Talk does not send sign-in links. Anything that claims to be Opinion-Talk and wants you to confirm your account somewhere is not from the site.

There are no private messages on Opinion-Talk, so nobody can put a link in front of you in private. Whatever anyone wants you to click, it is in public where everybody can see it.

If you think somebody else is in your account

Change the password first, then use Log out on all devices in Settings. If you still need help, write to NicolasUnica@proton.me from the account’s own address. If the account signs in with Google, secure the Google account before anything else, because everything here follows from it.

Harassment and threats

Block takes an account out of your feed, hides your opinions from it and removes any follow between you. Report sends it to be looked at by a person. Both are in the ⋯ menu on any opinion and on the profile, and reports are private. The account is never told who reported it.

Credible threats of violence and sexual content involving children are not moderation matters. They go to the authorities, and the account goes with them. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number before you contact this site.

What other people can see

Your opinions, replies and profile can be read by any signed-in account, except where either account has blocked the other. Your votes, bookmarks, blocked accounts and reports are visible to nobody but you.

Deleting something removes it from the site, but not from a screenshot somebody already took. The safe assumption for anything published anywhere is that it is permanent.

Other people’s details

Home addresses, phone numbers, documents, private conversations, photographs of people who did not agree to appear: posting any of it about somebody else breaks the Community Rules, and none of it can really be taken back once it is out. The same care is worth taking with your own.

Links that other people post

A link in an opinion goes wherever its author pointed it and nothing here checks it for you. The site itself loads no third-party scripts and no trackers, so reading a page here does not announce you anywhere. Following a link is your own decision, and once you are on the other site none of that applies.

Reporting a security problem

If you find something broken in a way that matters, such as a way into another account, data you should not be able to read or a page doing something it should not, email NicolasUnica@proton.me with the steps to reproduce it and give it a few days before telling anyone else. Reports sent that way are welcome and are treated as bug reports.

Testing it against another person’s account instead of your own is not research. That is dealt with as abuse, under the Terms.

Two-step verification

Any account can add a time-based code from an authenticator app in Settings. Once it is active, the code is required when signing in. Settings can also end every active session on all devices.

Age

The service is intended for people aged 16 and over. Do not create an account for a child. A verified report that an account belongs to an under-16 will be reviewed and may lead to removal in line with applicable law.
